Half Moon Drive In's Rockin on the Red kicks off its 5th year

Lockport, MB – Today marks the beginning of the free two-day concert and weekend of family fun at the Half Moon Drive In. The 5th Annual Rockin On The Red festival, in support of Children's Rehabilitation Foundation, is returning to Lockport, MB, for another weekend of rockin' music, delicious food, and so much fun.

"We throw a big party for a great cause," says Wayne McIntosh, 'Top Dog' and owner of the Half Moon Drive In. "It's great to see the community come together at a landmark Manitobans hold so dearly to sing along to their favourite classic songs and enjoy the petting zoo, great food, and firework shows– all to raise money for such an important organization."

The Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation (CRF) is a Manitoba charity focused on helping children living with disabilities and special needs. CRF is a vital and integral part of the Manitoba “children’s disability” landscape, offering important services and purchasing equipment for those families most in need.

CRF exists because children with disabilities and special needs should have the same opportunities as other children to learn, play and grow. CRF purchases specialized equipment and provides operating funds for adapted recreation programs that are not funded by any other source.

The money raised over the two days of Rockin on the Red will go directly to the purchase of a mobility bike for a child who needs it.

The two day festival is filled with FREE activities including two nights of fireworks, inflatable rides, magicians, face painters, and a petting zoo.

The Steeltown Ford Main Stage concert series will kick off Friday, July 14 at 6:30pm with live performances from some of past years crowd pleasers and some exciting seasoned acts that will take to the Rockin' On The Red stage this year.

About Half Moon Drive In:

Since it first opened in 1938, the Half Moon Drive In has become a famous Manitoba destination. A family drive along the Red River for a deluxe dog has become a tradition.

The spring of 1983 saw the old Half Moon close its doors and a larger, more modern restaurant opened its doors closer to the historic St. Andrews Lock and Dam. Since that time, the Half Moon has taken great care in maintaining the high standards that were developed from the original owners.

In addition to our famous hot dogs, the Half Moon serves up mouth-watering hamburgers, ice cold Pepsi, tasty homemade fries, and both hard and soft ice cream treats and sweets.  Our menu, along with a unique retro dining atmosphere combine to create the perfect family venue.

With our growth and popularity among people throughout Canada, the Half Moon Drive In is proud to be recognized as Canada's Best Hot Dog, Winnipeg Free Press, Today Magazine - June 27, 1981.
